Experian Boost is a free Experian feature that may help some people improve certain credit scores by adding eligible on-time bill payments to their Experian credit file. It is not a guaranteed credit fix, and it does not affect every credit score a lender might use.
Experian Boost lets consumers connect eligible accounts so Experian can look for qualifying payments such as utilities, phone, internet, streaming, insurance, and eligible rent payments. If qualifying payment history is found, Experian may add that positive history to the consumer’s Experian credit file.
It can, but results vary. Experian says many users see an instant FICO Score increase, but not everyone gets a boost. The effect depends on your existing credit file, payment history, the scoring model being used, and whether a lender pulls a score that includes the added Experian data.
Experian Boost may help at the margin, but strong credit usually comes from the basics: paying on time, keeping utilization low, limiting unnecessary applications, and reviewing your credit reports for errors.
